How to fix the assist saucer kickout mechanism on World Cup Soccer?

Hi all,

I recently completed the repair of my World Cup Soccer pinball, and
it's gotten quite some playtime in the past few week. But there is one
problem that keep coming back to haunt me: the upper playfield assist
saucer.

Pictured here: http://tinyurl.com/4s3ppx

When I first started playing the kickout was slow by playable, but
then it got so bad that it didn't even manage to kick the ball out. I
cleaned all the parts in the mechanism and replaced the coil sleeve,
but that didn't help.

Then I noticed that there was some leeway between the parts in the
mechanism. The parts are:

* Eject Cam Mounting Bracket - A-18146 (http://tinyurl.com/3vmfdy)
* Right Eject Cam Assembly A-7471-R (http://tinyurl.com/4v23sh)
* Ball Eject Spring Plate A-17907.1 (http://tinyurl.com/3pfa4s)

So I figured the wear and tear had made the leeway to big (making it
jam), so I ordered new parts. That helped, for about one week, until
it stopped releasing the eject cam back into the playfield. I tried
fixing it by adjusting the mechanism again, but that only resulted in
the kickout becoming slow again. I also tried shortening the red
spring, and lengthening the plunger spring, but no effect. I added
washers here and there to make the mechanism tighter, but that didn't
help either (made it too tight actually).

I'm now at the point where I'm actually considering putting mylar over
the damn thing and be done with it, but I though I'd check with you
guys first if anyone has any tips :)

Basically the whole thing seems like a weak spot on the pinball,
destined to fail sooner or later, as all the copies I've played have
had weak or non-working assist kickouts (and my searches here on RGP
seems to indicate I'm not the first one to bump into this). So:

* Is there some way to adjust the mechanism so it will not jam?
* Will lubing it help, and if so, how often would I have to clean
and re-lube the mechanism (once a month would for example be OK as
long as the thing works).
* Would it be possible to move or replace the mechanism with
something similar to the two other saucer kickouts?

Bonus questions:

* Are there any other options that I haven't considered?
* Are there any other games with similar problems that I should be
weary of in the future?

Thanks for any kind of input on this, as I said, I'm really lost here
and would love to get this sorted out!

That kick out was probably meant to be slow, not power launch it out and
break things. The metal part that sticks up out of the hole and actually
kicks the ball, bend it a little left or right and see if you get better
ball contact. LTG :)

That's probably correct. The problem is that it's "does not manage to
kick the ball into the goal, or even out of its own hole"-slow :) When
it was wokring it was plenty fast to shoot the ball into the goal.

Thanks for your tip. I tried that a few times, but it seems the
mechanisms is not stuck going through the saucer, but rather at the
base where it's pivoting around the mounting bracket. Right now the
problem is not getting the ball out, but getting the kickout metal
part to fall back into the playfield, so the ball does not get stuck
next time it rolls over the saucer :/

I vaguely recall having issues with this kicker, and I'm pretty sure
cleaning everything thoroughly with rubbing alcohol is what fixed it
up. Especially clean the pivot points - they get gummed up and
sticky.

Well can't offer you much, except some pictures of mine for ref.
Maybe you got something assembled wrong. Never once had problem with
mine or one I have played.

If it isn't retracting back, that sounds like plunger spring or some
mech issue for sure. Or perhaps the plunger is catching in the coil
sleeve. (something wrong with the plunger, not the sleeve)

It isn't catching on the switch?

You have the purple plastic piece in there correctly?

You gone into test mode with the playfield raised to see if it works
properly?

Making wild guesses at this point. Good luck!
